How I Ended Up Taking Over Eve Jewellery at 18

I still remember the phone call.
Last year, I got a completely casual call from my sibling, who had been running Eve Jewellery before me. There was no big conversation, no carefully planned handover, no dramatic “I have something important to tell you.”
It was almost out of nowhere.
They simply asked me to take over Eve.
For a few seconds, I genuinely thought it was a joke.
In my head, there had to be multiple layers to it. There had to be a bigger conversation coming, some catch, some explanation for why I was suddenly being asked to take over an entire jewellery business at 18.
But there wasn’t.
It really was that simple.
“Continue Eve Jewellery.”
And somehow, I did.
What started as a casual phone call slowly became something that occupies such a big part of my everyday life.
Today, I manage Eve almost entirely by myself. From choosing the pieces that make it onto the website, maintaining inventory and keeping track of what needs to be restocked, to creating content, managing sales, packing orders and figuring out everything in between, it’s all me.
There are obviously moments when it feels like a lot.
Sometimes, I wish there were someone else to make a decision for me. Sometimes I overthink the smallest things. Sometimes something doesn’t go according to plan and there is no one else to pass the problem on to.
But strangely enough, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
There is something incredibly liberating about knowing that the decisions I make are actually mine.
Of course, I ask for advice. I talk to my family, friends and people around me. I listen to different perspectives, take opinions and learn from people who know more than I do.
But at the end of the day, the decision is mine.
And I think that’s something I didn’t fully understand when I first took over Eve.
Running a business at 18 isn’t just about learning how to sell jewellery. It’s about learning how to trust your own judgement.
It’s learning that not every decision will be perfect, and that’s okay. It’s learning to take responsibility when something goes wrong and give yourself credit when something goes right. It’s learning how to make decisions even when you’re not completely sure of the answer.
And perhaps that’s my favourite part of doing this so young.
I’m figuring it out as I go.
Eve has given me a kind of freedom that I don’t think I would have experienced otherwise. The freedom to experiment, to change my mind, to try something new, to make mistakes and to build something in a way that feels true to me.
There is no fixed formula.
Some days I’m thinking about which jewellery pieces I want to introduce next. Other days I’m taking product pictures, writing captions, checking orders or sitting with inventory. And then there are days where I’m doing all of it at once.
It can be frustrating. It can be overwhelming, and sometimes it is definitely not glamorous.
But then an order comes in.
Someone chooses a piece that I personally picked out. Someone sends a message saying they love their jewellery. Someone discovers Eve for the first time.
And suddenly, all those little things feel worth it.
Because behind every order is something I had a hand in building.
When I look back at that phone call now, it’s almost funny to think that I genuinely thought it was a joke.
I didn’t have some grand plan to become a young entrepreneur. I wasn’t sitting around waiting for an opportunity to run a jewellery brand.
It just happened.
And maybe that’s what makes it so special.
At 18, you’re supposed to be figuring yourself out. You’re figuring out what you like, what you want to do, what you’re good at and where you want to go.
I’m still doing all of that.
But somewhere along the way, Eve became a part of that journey too.
I don’t know exactly where it will take me, and I don’t think I need to.
For now, I’m happy building it one decision, one order and one piece of jewellery at a time.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learnt from taking over Eve at 18, it’s that sometimes the opportunities you never planned for end up giving you the freedom you never knew you wanted.
